Yoga & Pilates in schools equips kids with life skills they can use every day to identify and manage stress.
Young people in Australia experience high levels of stress and anxiety especially since years of home schooling during covid lockdowns. We are not often taught how to slow down and calm down and both Yoga and Pilates have been proven to do this. In both Yoga and Pilates you are taught to focus on your breath, to move with your breath, you are encouraged to stay focused in the present moment, these are key to reducing feelings of stress and anxiety. Both Yoga and Pilates support the physical body, releasing tightness and tension from poor posture and from slouching over desks/laptops studying and from staring down at phones, along with building overall strength, especially core strength to help maintain good posture.
We always finish with a short 5 minute guided full body relaxation meditation to calm the nervous system. Teaching you how to relax your body, which is an amazing tool for kids to have to be able to access on their own in times of stress and anxiety or when struggling to sleep.
