Yoga Nidra Meditation

  • The Wellness Hub Lvl 2, 135 Victoria Rd, Drummoyne Drummoyne Australia (map)

Often people are put off by meditation because they think they have to sit there and think of nothing :-). This of course is impossible (unless you are a Zen Monk). There are various forms of meditation, Yoga Nidra is simple and effective, one just lies down and is guided through body awareness instructions.

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is a meditative practice that brings you into a state of deep relaxation and then allows you to become increasingly aware of your body and inner world. You will likely experience yourself in a level of consciousness somewhere between wakefulness and sleeping. You may also drift in and out of the sleep, but that is normal and perfectly fine. Your deepest level of consciousness will still be actively listening.

There is no right or wrong way to practice and all experiences are 'normal' and welcome. Yoga Nidra is a practice accessible to everyone, from children to seniors. All that your body needs to do is lie down on the floor. If you can't lie down on the floor, you can still do this practice seated.

What are the benefits?

Yoga Nidra promotes deep rest and relaxation that isn’t found in your average meditation practice. The stages of body scan and breath awareness alone can be practiced to calm the nervous system, leading to less stress and better health.
